Plymouth State fall sports schedules released

Panthers looking forward to 2017 campaign

           PLYMOUTH, N.H. – While the rest of the state is enjoying summer in New Hampshire, Plymouth State University fall sports coaches and athletes are setting their sights on their 2017 seasons.

            Complete schedules for all eight PSU fall sports are now available on the university's athletics website – Six teams will open play over Labor Day weekend with the final two starting their seasons the following weekend.

            The women's soccer program celebrates the start of the new school year by hosting the University of Maine Farmington at Arold Field on Friday, Sept. 1. At the same time the men's team will travel to Salem State University for its season opener.

           The women's volleyball and tennis squads are also in action Sept. 1, with tennis entertaining Lyndon State College and volleyball playing two matches at the Best Western – Ground Round Cardinal Classic at SUNY Plattsburgh.

            The field hockey and football teams both open up on Saturday, Sept. 2.  Field hockey ventures to Smith College for an opening game against the Pioneers as part of the inaugural Caryl Newhof Classic, while the football team welcomes Castleton University to Currier Field.

            The men's and women's cross country teams make their season debuts the following weekend when they host the PSU Short Course Opener on Saturday, Sept. 9, marking the fifth season for the two programs.

             The Panther football program will enter its 48th varsity season and its fifth year as a member of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC), while the cross country, field hockey, soccer, tennis and volleyball teams will all compete for Little East Conference (LEC) titles.
