Szulc recognized by MASCAC for second straight week
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Sophomore wide receiver Jacob Szulc (Concord, N.H.) was named to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Football Weekly Honor Roll for his performance in Saturday's 37-29 setback to Western Connecticut State University on Saturday.
Szulc, who earned the same honor last week after catching three touchdown passes in a 27-0 blanking of Mount Ida, was again the top scoring threat for the Panthers. The 6-2 receiver pulled in five passes for 82 total yards and three more TDs. Szulc now has eight touchdown receptions on the season, good enough for second in the country through the first three weeks.
With the Panthers trailing 14-0, Szulc got PSU on the scoreboard after hauling in an eight-yard pass from junior quarterback Zack Edwards (Brookfield, Mass.) 1:39 into the second quarter. The duo hooked up again with just over a minute remaining in the half, this time for a 40-yard strike, to pull the Panthers to within three points, 24-21.
Szulc caught his third score as Plymouth State looked to mount a late comeback. With 6:46 remaining in the game he caught a seven-yard pass from Edwards to account for the final score in the loss. Plymouth had the ball for a final possession with a chance to tie the score, but WCSU came up with a key turnover to seal the game.
PSU is currently 2-1 (0-1 MASCAC) and will host the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at Currier Field on Saturday (Sept. 23) in the annual Homecoming game. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
