Panthers preparing for 2017-18 competition
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Despite a recent stretch of unseasonably warm temperatures, the Plymouth State University winter sports programs are gearing up for their 2017-18 seasons.
Complete schedules for all 10 winter sports teams are now available on the university's athletics website – athletics.plymouth.edu.
The ice hockey programs will be the first winter sports in action. The men's ice hockey team will open its season as defending Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) regular season champions on Friday, Oct. 27 at Endicott College with puck drop set for 7:00 p.m. PSU women's ice hockey opens at home on Saturday, Oct. 28 against SUNY Canton at Hanaway Rink with the opening faceoff scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The women's swimming and diving team will look to start the new year off with a splash at the Louise Goodrum Invitational hosted by UMass Dartmouth on Saturday, Nov. 4 starting at noon.
Wrestling takes to the mat at New England College the following week. The Panthers travel to Henniker, N.H. to face the Pilgrims in a dual meet on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 1:00 p.m.
Both basketball teams kick off their new campaigns against Rivier University at the annual Boys & Girls Club Classic hosted by New Hampshire Technical Institute in Concord, N.H. The women's team will take to the hardwood first with tipoff set for 6:00 p.m., and the men's game is set to start at 8:00 p.m.
The men's and women's indoor track teams both open on Saturday, Dec. 2 at the 6th Annual UMass Boston Indoor Open. The meet is set to begin at 9:00 a.m.
The men's and women's ski teams take to the slopes for the first time under the leadership of new head coach Geoff Ouellette at the Colby Carnival hosted by Sugarloaf Mountain Resort. The giant slalom races will take place on Saturday, Jan. 20, with slalom races to follow on Sunday, Jan. 21.
