Panthers recognized in baseball, softball, women's lacrosse
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three Plymouth State University student-athletes were recognized by the Little East Conference (LEC) for their performances over the last week.
Senior infielder Mitch Sytulek (Raymond, N.H.) was named the LEC Baseball Player of the Week, sophomore pitcher Caitlyn Miller (Lee, N.H.) was named LEC Softball Pitcher of the Week and senior attacker Megan Tingley (Natick, Mass.) earned LEC Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week honors.
Sytulek posted a .455/.520/.682 slash line as the Plymouth State baseball team went 4-4 over its final eight games in Fort Myers, Fla. last week. He finished 10-22 with two doubles and a home run while scoring nine runs and driving in three. He had at least one hit in six of the eight games, including a 3-5 effort with three runs scored in a 10-7 setback to SUNY-Old Westbury on Wednesday. He homered in an 8-7 win over St. Lawrence University on Monday and capped the week going 2-2 with a double as the Panthers knocked off Johns Hopkins for the second time in eight days, 3-2. This is his first weekly honor of the season.
Miller made six appearances in the circle as the Panthers' softball team went 5-3 in Clermont, Fla. She posted a 2-2 record while adding a pair of saves over 27.2 innings of work. The 5-8 left-hander threw three complete games out of four starts, averaging 6.25 innings per start. She struck out 20 batters to just four walks while pitching to a 1.27 ERA. Her most impressive day came Monday when she tossed a complete-game, one-hitter while striking out five as PSU topped Western New England University 4-0. In the day's second game she tossed a scoreless seventh frame to pick up a save as the Panthers knocked off Fredonia State 4-3. On Wednesday she struck out five batters in just 1.2 innings to earn the save in a 6-0 shutout over Buffalo State. This is Miller's first weekly honor of the year.
Tingley helped lead the lacrosse team to a pair of wins in New York. On Saturday she single-handedly willed the Panthers to an 11-10 win over SUNY-Oneonta, notching a game-high six goals, including the game-tying and game-winning goals in the final ten minutes of play. She added six draw controls, four ground balls and four caused turnovers in the win. She added two goals, including her 100th career goal, and four assists in PSU's 17-11 win over Hartwick on Thursday, to go along with seven draw controls. This is Tingley's second Offensive Player of the Week honor.
All three teams are back in action on Wednesday. Softball travels to Salem State University for a double-header with games at 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m., while the women's lacrosse team plays under the lights at Wheaton College at 7:00 p.m. Baseball will also play at 7:00 p.m. when it hosts Lyndon State College at Franklin Pierce University's Pappas Field.
