LeRoy, Bartlett celebrated among New Hampshire's best in 2018

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A pair of Plymouth State University student-athletes were among a group of athletes, coaches and officials honored at The Leaders: A Celebration of New Hampshire Sports Champions banquet, sponsored by the Manchester Union Leader on Sunday afternoon.

Men's basketball junior Jaylen LeRoy (Manchester, N.H.) and men's indoor track and field senior Warren Bartlett (Loudon, N.H.) were selected as Union Leader Athlete of the Month winners during the 2018 calendar year. The duo were honored, along with special recognition award winners, Athletes of the Year recipients, officials and coaches.

LeRoy was tabbed the January winner thanks to some strong shooting performances. He opened the month scoring 34 points in a blowout win over Lyndon State College, then drained six three-pointers as part of a career-high tying 35-point effort in a one-point loss to WestConn three days later, but he wasn't done yet.

The following week he established a new career-best with 43 points in a setback at Rhode Island College, finishing 4-of-10 from beyond the arc and sinking 13-of-16 free throws in the game. He averaged 25.0 points per game for the month and made multiple three-pointers in five of the eight contests.

Bartlett was selected as the February winner after an impressive month on the track. In his first meet of the month he was crowned the Little East Conference champion in the 1,000-meter run, setting a new LEC record with a time of 2:30.87. It was his third straight LEC title in the event.

The following week he finished 11th at the NCAA Division III New England Regional Track & Field Championships in the mile run with a time of 4:24.65, and he closed out the month with a school record time in the same event at the Boston University Last Chance Qualifier. His time of 4:14.17 was the 40th fastest time in all of Division III at the time.

The men's basketball team (12-12, 6-9 LEC) wraps up the regular season on Wednesday (Feb. 13) with a key LEC contest on the Panthers' Senior Day. Battling for a playoff position, PSU welcomes Southern Maine for a 7:30 p.m. contest.

The men's indoor track & field team is also at home this week as the Panthers host the LEC and New England Alliance Championship meet at George E. Davis '63 Track at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House on Saturday (Feb. 16).
