Physical Education Center (P.E. Center)

The Physical Education Center (P.E. Center) is the primary facility for the PSU Athletic Department.  Opened in 1969, the building includes department offices; a 1,600 seat gymnasium; a six-lane, 25-yard swimming pool; a wrestling room; The Vailas Performance Center fitness facility; the Athletic Training and rehabilitation facility and also serves as the home of the Health and Human Enrichment cluster.  The P.E. Center is surrounded by over 33 acres of athletic fields and an additional 12 acres used by the Intramural/Recreation Department.

Anyone using the P.E. Center facilities must have a current student or faculty ID or a facility pass.  Facility passes can be purchased in the main office of the P.E. Center.

Facility Pass Information:

  • Individuals must be 19 years or older to purchase a pass. 
  • No guests are permitted - all users must have an ID or pass.
  • The facility pass allows access to racquetball courts, the Vailas Performance Center, basketball courts, the pool and locker room facilities.
  • Passes cost: 
    • $35 one month from date of purchase  
    • $20 for two weeks (14 days) from date of purchase 
    • $10 per day, pass valid for date of purchase only 

Facility Pass Guidelines:

  • No guests are allowed to accompany pass holders, including guest children. All guests must purchase a pass of some level (ex: day pass).
  • Dependent children between the ages of 3 and 18 are allowed to use the swimming pool, but must be accompanied by a parent. 
  • Please no diapers (including swim diapers) in the pool.  
  • Children are not allowed to use any facilities without supervision of pass holder. No children under the age of 16 are permitted in the Vailas Performance Center.   
  • You must have your pass with you at all times, including on the pool deck, and present it to any staff member upon request.

  • Do PSU Alumni need to purchase a pass?
    • Yes.
  • Does PSU offer swim lessons?
    • No, PSU does not currently offer lessons for youth or adults.
  • Is the pool available for individual lessons with a hired instructor?
    • No, individual swim lessons with a hired instructor are not to be conducted during open swim hours.
  • Can our group use the pool?
    • Groups looking to use the pool should contact the PSU Events Office for scheduling. They will do their best to accommodate your request.
  • Are there any community swim programs?
    • Community Aquatic Programs are available. Contact Linda Fischer (lcfischer@plymouth.edu) for more information.
  • What happens if PSU is closed?
    • Whenever the University is closed, for holiday, delayed opening or cancellation of classes due to inclement weather or an emergency, the P.E. Center (including the pool and Vailas Performance Center) will also be closed. To check for closings call the PSU Storm Line at 603-535-3535 or go online at www.plymouth.edu.

Monday - Thursday                    8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Friday                                         8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.


Open Swim Hours (Summer 2018 ... June 11 - August 3)

Mornings                            Monday - Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m.

Afternoons                         Monday - Thursday, 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

NOTE - There will be no community swim hours from 12:00 p.m. on May 16 through June 10 as the pool is closed for maintenance and cleaning.


Vailas Performance Center Hours (Summer 2018 ... May 17 - August 9)

Monday - Thursday                    10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.


The P.E. Center, including the pool and Vailas Performance Center, will be closed to the public on the following holidays in 2018: Jan. 15, Mar. 16-25, May 28, July 4, Sept. 3, Oct. 8, Nov. 12, Nov. 22-23, Dec. 22-31 and during any inclement weather delayed openings/closures.
