Mary-Bridget Pawlik-Blandini
Women's Soccer
Uniform Retirement Ceremony -- October 16, 1999
Ten years ago this weekend, Plymouth State College retired its
first two uniform numbers, in honor of former Panther all-stars who
had performed above and beyond anyone's expectations and brought
tremendous pride to the PSC community: #22 former football player
Joe Dudek and #10 for former men's soccer player Steve Clark. Three
years ago, a third jersey was added to the trophy case, #12,
honoring former men's basketball star Moses Jean-Pierre.
Today, Plymouth State College is proud to retire the first
uniform number of a female student-athlete, the number 15, in honor
of PSC's former NCAA National Women's Soccer Player of the Year
Mary Bridget Pawlik
Mary-Bridget Pawlik-Blandini achieved a tremendous amount of
success during her four years in a Panther uniform from 1990-93. A
dominating offensive player, she became PSC's all time women's
soccer scoring leader with 56 goals and 140 points. She led PSC to
four straight NCAA Tournament berths from 1990-93, including a pair
of Final Four appearances and a combined record of 60-9-4. She
received All-America honors in '92 and '93, and was the Little East
Conference Player of the Year both years.
A native of North Andover, Mass., Pawlik-Blandini was well known
and respected for her outstanding personality and character. She
was a terrific teammate and opponent. M-B was so skillful, a former
coach brags that M-B could beat her opponent with that Golden Left
Foot, even if they knew it was coming.
In addition to having her number retired today, Mary-Bridget
Pawlik-Landini will be enshrined later this month when she is
inducted into Plymouth State College's Athletic Hall of Fame in her
first year of eligibility.
At this time, here at Panther Field where M-B excelled as a
student-athlete, Plymouth State College President Donald Wharton
will formally present Mary-Bridget Pawlik-Landini with her old #15,
which will never again be issued to a Plymouth State women's soccer
player. Current PSC senior co-captain Tara Dickson will finish the
season with the No. 15, after which it will be retired to the
trophy case in M-B's honor.
