DANBURY, Conn. - The Plymouth State College baseball team scored a remarkable 53 runs in two games Saturday, sweeping a Little East Conference doubleheader from Western Connecticut, 29-4 and 24-5.
The Panther bats exploded for 29 hits and 29 runs in the opener, setting PSC single-game records in both departments. The visitors weren't done, though, hammering out another 28 hits and 24 runs in the nightcap. The 27 RBI for PSC in the opener was also a new team record.
PSC evens its overall mark at 13-13-1 overall, while moving to 5-3 in the LEC. WCSU drops to 2-15 overall and 1-8 in the LEC.

Rounding out the slugfest for the Panthers were Matt Price (Epping, NH), who went 4-for-9 with two doubles and three RBI; Mike Ryan (W. Roxbury, MA), who went 3-for-6 with a double and three RBI; and George Gauthier (Rochester, NH) was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI.
Oddly, PSC's leading hitter going into the doubleheader was Mike Bence (Warwick, RI), who was batting .414, but went only 2-for-8 with two RBI.
DuBois and freshman Jeff Morgan (Laconia, NH) picked up pitching victories for PSC and share the team lead with four wins. DuBois worked six innings in the opener to improve to 4-2, and Morgan pitched five innings in the nightcap to improve to 4-1.
