PLYMOUTH, N.H. - A Plymouth State College baseball player has received a weekly honor from the Little East Conference for his performance in five Panther games last week.
Junior third baseman Corey Mastin (Newmarket, NH) was named Player of the Week in the Little East Conference. He led PSC's offense, batting .522 with three doubles, two triples, one home run, seven runs scored and 11 RBI. Mastin hit safely in all five games and had five RBI in the second game of the doubleheader versus UMass Boston. He is now hitting .315 with 13 doubles, three triples, three home runs, and a team-high 30 RBI.
Heading into the final week of the regular season, Plymouth State has an overall record of 17-14-1 and an LEC mark of 7-3. PSC is in third place in the LEC, and is on target to finish in the top four of the LEC and clinch a spot in the LEC double-elimination tournament next weekend (May 14-16).
The Panthers have been on a tear of late, winning six of their last seven games while outscoring their opponents 100-35. PSC finishes up its regular season with consecutive games against Keene State (May 5-6) and an LEC twinbill Saturday (May 8) at Southern Maine (12:00 p.m.).
PANTHER NOTES: Senior SS Todd Steffanides (Fitchburg, MA) is a candidate for LEC Player of the Year. He ranks first in the LEC in hits (1.72 per game) and doubles (0.50 per game), third in batting (.407) and runs scored (1.34 per game), and seventh in stolen bases (0.47 per game). Steffanides has made an impact on the PSC record books, as well, setting single-season school marks for runs scored (43) and doubles (16). He needs just three hits to set the single-season mark (currently at 58) in that category.....Senior ace Ben DuBois (Franklin, NH) is PSC's top candidate for LEC Pitcher of the Year. The righthander leads the LEC with a superb 1.67 ERA, and ranks second in wins (5) and strikeouts (8.50 per 9 innings). DuBois is also putting his name in the PSC record books, setting career records for appearances (41), innings (189.0) and strikeouts (151).
