PSC Baseball defeats Middlebuy on Florida trip
FORT MYERS, Florida - Freshman Jason Wood (Dover, NH) keyed a four-run fourth inning Friday with a bases-loaded triple, leading Plymouth State College's baseball team to a 9-5 victory over Middlebury College in the final contest of a nine-game Florida trip.
PSC concludes it participation in the annual Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic with a 5-4 overall record, while Middlebury is now 7-7. The Panthers return to New England for the scheduled home opener at Panther Field this Wednesday (Mar. 29) against Saint Anselm College (3:30 p.m.).
Trailing 5-4 heading into the bottom of the fourth, PSC rallied for four runs in the inning, three coming on Wood's triple. Wood finished the game 3-for-4 with four RBI. Freshman Phil Pagan (Nashua, NH) added to PSC's offense with two hits, two walks, two stolen bases and four runs scored, while senior Josh Egan (Sharon, Mass.) knocked in three runs on three sacrifice flies.
Sophomore Jon Albertini (Franklin, Mass.) picked up the victory in relief for PSC, his first of the season to go along with a save he registered earlier in the week.
After the Saint Anselm encounter, PSC has its first Little East Conference doubleheader scheduled for next Saturday, Apr. 1, at UMass Dartmouth (12 p.m.).
