PSC Baseball downs Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. - Junior Dakota Smith (Rochester, NH) broke a 5-5 tie with an eighth inning triple Friday, helping Plymouth State College's baseball team snap a three-game losing streak and earn a 7-5 victory over Endicott College.

Smith, who had two hits on the day, came around to score the insurance run on a suicide squeeze by Jason Freeman (Manhasset, NY). It made a winner out of relief pitcher Jonathan Rich (Londonderry, NH), improving him to 2-2. Junior Mike Orlosky (Middleboro, Mass.) worked a scoreless ninth inning to record his first save.

In addition to Smith's two hits, PSC got three hits from senior Josh Egan (Sharon, Mass.) and two from freshman catcher Matt Tupman (Concord, NH). Starting pitcher Jon Albertini (Franklin, Mass.) allowed five runs in five innings, departing with the score deadlocked at 5-5.

PSC, 6-7-1 overall, returns home to host powerful Eastern Connecticut Saturday (4/8) in a Little East Conference doubleheader (12 noon) at Panther Field. The Warriors, two-time defending LEC champions, won the NCAA Division III national championship in 1998 and are currently 17-2 and ranked No. 1 in the nation in Division III.

Endicott is now 8-8.
