Dartmouth routs PSC Baseball
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Dartmouth College pounded nine Plymouth State College pitchers for 20 runs on 26 hits Wednesday, and went on to defeat PSC, 20-4, at Panther Field.
The victory was Dartmouth's seventh in a row, and improved New England's second-ranked Division I team to 20-11 overall. The Panthers dropped to 10-12-1 overall. Plymouth State's plan all along was to empty the bullpen against the favored Big Green. Panther head coach Dennis McManus used nine hurlers - none working more than an inning and a third. Dartmouth also used four pitchers, with starter Brian Gattis working the first 5.1 innings (11 hits, 3 runs, all earned, 0 BBs, 3 Ks) and picking up his first victory of the season (1-3).
Dartmouth scored runs every inning from the second to the seventh, including eight runs in the third inning and a seven-spot in the sixth. PSC got on the scoreboard with three runs in the sixth and one more in the eighth.
Senior James Little led the Big Green hitters, going 4-for-4 with three RBI and his fourth home run of the season. Five other hitters had three hits apiece - Chris Miranda, Brian Nickerson, Mike Mileusnic, Yale Dieckmann, and Joe Rockers. Dieckmann and Rockers each clouted their first round tripper of the season.
The Panther hitters produced 13 hits on the afternoon. Freshman Jay Zinis (Manchester, NH-West) went 3-for-4 with two RBI, and Matt Tupman (Concord, NH) and Jason Wood (Dover, NH) each had two hits.
PSC continues its five-game homestand Friday with a non-conference match-up against Saint Joseph's (3 p.m.), followed Saturday by a Little East Conference doubleheader against Western Connecticut (12 noon). Dartmouth hosts Yale in Ivy League doubleheaders Friday and Saturday in Hanover (12 noon).
