PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two sophomores on the Plymouth State College baseball team have been named to the 2001 Little East Conference All-Star Team.
Designated hitter Rob Burr (Concord, N.H.) and third baseman Scott Hodsdon (Somersworth, N.H.) were selected to the All-LEC Second Team in voting by the league's head coaches. Both players were in their first year with the Panthers after transferring; Burr from Allen County Community College (Kansas) and Hodsdon from Saint Anselm College (N.H.)
A 5'10", 220-pound right-handed hitter, Burr led the Panthers with five home runs and 35 runs batted in. A starter in 37 of PSC's 38 games, he batted .341 with three doubles and 26 runs scored. Burr was primarily the Panther DH, but also saw some playing time in the outfield.
A 6'1", 215-pound left-handed hitter, Hodsdon led the Panthers with 54 hits and a .362 batting average. A starter at third base in all 38 Panther games, he also registered 10 doubles, two triples, two home runs and 20 RBI. Hodsdon matched the school record for doubles in a game when he cracked three against Keene State on April 10th.
Burr and Hodsdon were among the leaders that helped PSC win 10 of their final 13 games, and 13 of the last 17. The Panthers completed the season under 17th-year head coach Dennis McManus with a 17-21 overall record.
