PSC wins two at Rivier
NASHUA, N.H. - Plymouth State College picked up a pair of non-conference baseball victories Sunday, defeating Rivier College 16-4 and 12-4. The outcome improves PSC's record this season to 6-11 overall.
PSC scored five runs in the first inning of the opener and never looked back. The Panthers finished the first game with 16 runs on 23 hits, including back-to-back second inning home runs by juniors Scott Hodsdon (Somersworth, N.H.) and Matt Price (Epping, N.H.). Hodsdon ended up with a school-record tying five hits and three RBI, and Price finished with two hits and three runs knocked in. Three-hit efforts were turned in by freshman Derek Guimond (Lewiston, Maine), senior Jon Albertini (Franklin, Mass.) and juniors Robbie Burr (Concord, N.H.) and Sy Tebbetts (Hollis, N.H.).
Junior Jon Rich (Londonderry, N.H.) worked all seven innings of the opener to pick up his first win of the season (1-1), allowing six hits and a walk while striking out seven. The Panthers needed only nine hits in the nightcap as they took advantage of 11 walks. Price had an RBI double and a two-run home run, his third of the season, while Burr clouted his fourth homer of the spring. Junior Jay Zinis (Manchester, N.H./West) went 3-for-5 with a pair of triples.
Freshman Dan Dixon (Limington, Maine) pitched the first five innings for PSC, allowing two runs and three hits to register his first career victory. Classmate Corey Wentworth (Freeport, Maine) came on to work the final two innings.
PSC returns to Little East Conference action Tuesday with a key match-up at arch-rival Keene State (3:00 p.m.). The Panthers then return home to host New England College Wednesday in a non-conference twinbill (2:00 p.m.).
