PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two members of the Plymouth State College baseball team were recognized Monday with weekly honors from the Little East Conference.
PSC junior Jay Zinis (Manchester, N.H./West) was selected the LEC Player of the Week and freshman Josh Forest (Manchester, N.H./Trinity) was named LEC Pitcher of the Week. The two were key players as PSC posted a 4-2-1 record last week.
A junior left fielder, Zinis collected nine hits in 18 at-bats (.500), including four doubles, two home runs, four runs scored and 14 knocked in. In game two of an LEC doubleheader against Southern Maine, Zinis went 4-for-4 with a pair of three-run homers, an RBI double and three runs scored. He drove in seven of PSC's eight runs in the game.
Zinis starts this week second in the conference in batting (.451), behind teammate Scott Hodsdon (Somersworth, N.H.), third in hits (1.68 per game), fourth in home runs (6) and second in RBI (1.18 per game).
A sophomore southpaw, Forest tossed a seven-inning complete-game no-hitter in his only appearance of the week, blanking New England College 7-0. He struck out 10 and faced the minimum number of batters, picking off the only Pilgrim baserunner, who had reached on a hit by pitch. It was Forest's first victory and first shutout in a Panther uniform.
PSC, 10-13-1 overall and 0-6-1 in conference action, plays non-conference home games Wednesday and Thursday against in-state foe Dartmouth College and Saint Joseph's, respectively. Both games are slated for 3:00 p.m. at Panther Park.
