PSC takes LEC twinbill at RIC

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Plymouth State College scored 25 on 27 hits Saturday, sweeping a Little East Conference baseball doubleheader from Rhode Island College, 13-6 and 12-8 in 10 innings.

The victories improve PSC to 13-14-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the conference, while the Anchormen fall to 7-22 overall and 0-10 in the LEC. In addition to the big bats, PSC got a pair of complete-game pitching performances. Senior Nate Provencher (Wilton, N.H.) got the win in the opener, allowing two earned runs and six hits while striking out seven. Classmate Jeff Morgan (Laconia, N.H.) worked all 10 innings of the nightcap, striking out nine to improve his record to 3-1.

Junior Robbie Burr (Concord, N.H.) pounded out four hits for PSC in the opener, and added three more in the nightcap, including a double and his team-leading seventh home run of the season. Classmate Scott Hodsdon (Somersworth, N.H.) added three hits in the opener, including a double. Both Burr and Hodsdon knocked in three runs in the first game.

PSC needed two runs in the top of the ninth of the nighcap for force extra innings. PSC then erupted for five runs in the 10th to secure the win.

The Panthers cracked five round-trippers in the second game. In addition to Burr, sophomore Jay Morgan (Laconia, N.H.) hit his second and third homers of the season, while junior Matt Price (Epping, N.H.) added his fifth and freshman Derek Guimond (Lewiston, Maine) hit his first. It was Price's two-run shot in the 10th inning that was RIC's back-breaker.
