PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Keene State College scored nine runs in the fifth inning Wednesday and went on to post a 16-5 victory over Plymouth State College in a Little East Conference baseball game at Panther Park.

The win gives KSC a season sweep over the Panthers, and improves the Owls to 18-13 overall and 7-3 in the LEC. Plymouth State, which had won five of its previous six, drops to 13-15-1 overall and 2-7-1 in conference play. Junior Ben Tyer (Lee, Mass.) led the Owls with four hits, including a double and a home run, and six runs batted in.

Keene State took a 2-0 lead with single runs in the second and third innings, as junior Justin Hickman (Mont Vernon, N.H.) lead off the second frame with a solo home run, his fourth of the season, and freshman Matt Orszulak (Campton, N.H.) scored on a sacrifice fly by Tyer in the third. PSC tied it up in the last of the fourth when junior Matt Salokangas (New Ipswich, N.H.) provided an RBI single and classmate Matt Price (Epping, N.H.) scored on a wild pick-off attempt.

The Owls took an insurmountable lead in the fifth, plating nine runs off three different Panther pitchers. Junior Eric Kilburn (Keene, N.H.) had the big hit of the inning with his third home run of the season, a two-run shot. Tyer contributed three RBI in the inning with a run-scoring double and a two-run single, and classmate John Trubiano (Keene, N.H.) added an RBI base hit.

Tyer hit Keene State's third home run of the game in the seventh inning, a solo shot for his second of the year. KSC finished off the scoring in the ninth inning with four runs, two coming home on a double by senior Kelly Charbono (Enfield, N.H.). Tyer added his fourth hit with an RBI single, and Trubiano chipped in with a sac-fly.

Trailing 12-2, PSC scored three runs in the eighth inning. Juniors Jay Zinis (Manchester, N.H./Trinity), Robbie Burr (Concord, N.H.) and Price led off with consecutive singles. Freshman Derek Guimond (Lewiston, Maine) plated one run with an RBI single, and junior Sy Tebbetts (Hollis, N.H.) and freshman Matt Gabellieri (Lincoln, R.I.) drove home the other two with sacrifice flies.

PSC sophomore Josh Forest (Manchester, N.H./Trinity) pitched well for four innings, but didn't get out of the fifth and took the loss (2-4). Senior Andrew Cuthbertson (Lafargeville, N.Y.) worked the first seven innings for Keene State to pick up the win, improving his record to 3-2.
