Ninth-inning rally lifts Endicott over PSC

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Endicott College scored seven runs with two outs in the ninth inning Friday and went on to post an 11-6 victory over Plymouth State College in a non-conference baseball game at Panther Park.

The victory improves Endicott to 18-12 overall, while Plymouth State drops to 13-16-1.

The outcome spoiled what was a strong outing by PSC junior lefthander Owen Burke (Sanbornton, N.H.). He struck out a career-high 12 batters through eight-and-two thirds innings, but couldn't finish off the Power Gulls and took the loss to drop to 1-2.

With the score tied at 4-4, Burke retired the first two batters in the ninth inning, but the next eight Power Gulls reached base, on six hits and two Panther errors. Before the damage was done, Endicott had scored seven times. Sophomore Matt Plante (North Bennington, Vt.) had a two-run homer in the inning, and freshmen Greg Allain (Berlin, N.H.) and Pat Vincent (Manchester, N.H.) and junior Dustin Aiguier (Brewster, Mass.) added RBI hits.

PSC plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth, but it was too little, too late.

Junior Jay Zinis (Manchester, N.H./Trinity) led the Panther offense, going 4-for-5 with three doubles and three runs batted in. Freshman Derek Guimond (Lewiston, Maine) contributed a pair of hits and a stolen base, and junior Matt Price (Epping, N.H.) added an RBI single.

The Panthers host Western Connecticut for an LEC twinbill on Saturday (12 noon). Endicott returns home to host Curry Saturday in a doubleheader.
