PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Little East Conference began its weekly honors for spring sports Monday, and three Plymouth State College student-athletes were recognized by being named Players of the Week in their respective sports.
Senior Robbie Burr (Concord, N.H.) was selected LEC Baseball Player of the Week, sophomore Kim Jeffs (Stoughton, Mass.) was named LEC Softball Pitcher of the Week, and junior Katie Sheridan (West Sayville, N.Y.) received the LEC Offensive Player of the Week honor in women's lacrosse.
Burr, a senior third baseman/designated hitter, collected 16 hits in 33 trips to the plate (.485) over 10 games, including four doubles, two home runs, 15 RBI and 16 runs scored. He registered at least one hit in every game, including four hits in the nightcap of a doubleheader against Roger Williams. In the season opener against RWU, he drove in six runs and scored twice. Burr also broke up a perfect game attempt against Eastern Connecticut last Saturday with an eighth-inning single.
Jeffs, a right-handed starter, surrendered only three earned runs and three walks in 62.2 innings over 10 games, fanning 104 batters to record a 0.43 ERA. She struck out 10 or mare batters in eight of her nine starts, including a season-high 16 against Wheaton, and threw a five-inning no-hitter against Framingham State. Her efforts have helped lead Plymouth State to an 11-1 mark and the #2 ranking in the New England Division III poll.
Sheridan, a junior midfielder, led Plymouth State's women's lacrosse team in scoring in all five games to date, netting 20 goals and 12 assists for 32 points. Included in her totals was a 10-point (6-4-10) outing at Whittier and a nine-point (6-3-9) performance against Colorado College. Sheridan leads the conference in goals, assists and points.
