Salem State knocks off PSU BaseballSALEM, Mass.
- Salem State College scored 15 runs on 15 hits Thursday afternoon and took a non-conference baseball game from Plymouth State University, 15-4, at Fraser Field.
Senior Mike Morgan (Burlington, Mass.) led the Vikings with three hits and five RBI, while senior Mike Navarro (Saugus, Mass.) also had three hits and drove in four. Salem State improves to 20-11 on the season, while PSU dropped to 5-24.
Junior Derek Guimond (Lewiston, Maine) provided the bright spots for Plymouth State, cracking two triples and scoring two runs. Sophomore C.J. Rousseau (Merrimack, N.H.) had an RBI single for PSU in the first inning, and classmate Adam Kobeski (Walpole, N.H.) added a two-run single in the third.
Junior Chris Winroth (Hopedale, Mass.) picked up his first victory of the season with five solid innings of relief for the Vikings. Freshman Jamie Aceto (Cumberland, R.I.) started and took the loss for PSU (1-3).
Salem State plays at home again Friday against Saint Joseph's College (3:30 p.m.), while PSU returns to Little East Conference action with a doubleheader Saturday at Rhode Island College (12:00 p.m.).
