PSU Baseball holds on to defeat MIT
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Junior Steve Campo (Londonderry, N.H.) scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning on a suicide squeeze bunt by classmate Dylan Mullin (Derry, N.H.) Wednesday afternoon, and Plymouth State University held on to defeat the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, 9-8, in a non-conference nine-inning baseball game at Panther Park.
It was a see-saw battle, with MIT taking leads of 2-0, 3-2, and 5-4. PSU rallied to score four runs in the last of the sixth to go ahead 8-5, but the Engineers tied things up with three runs in the top of the seventh to set up the winning rally for PSU.
Freshman Joe Brayton (Medfield, Mass.) came on in relief for PSU, keeping MIT off the board further in the seventh and again in the eighth to pick up the victory and improve to 2-0. Sophomore Chip Hale (Londonderry, N.H.) pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Panthers for his first save.
Both teams finished with 16 hits on the afternoon. The outcome snapped an eight-game losing skid for PSU as the Panthers improved to 7-15. MIT fell to 11-6.
