PSU Baseball players earn top LEC weekly honors

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two Plymouth State University baseball players were recognized by the Little East Conference on Monday with two of the three weekly conference honors.

Junior Kevin Levandowski (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) was named LEC Baseball Player of the Week, and freshman Matt Koban (Bradford, N.H./Kearsarge) was selected LEC Rookie of the Week. They both had outstanding weeks at the plate, helping the Panthers to their first LEC win of the season.

Levandowski batted .643 in PSU's three games last week, going 9-for-14 with a triple, three home runs, 12 RBI, six runs scored and two stolen bases.  He knocked in eight runs in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday against UMass Dartmouth, going 3-for-6 with two home runs and three runs scored.  He hit a two-run homer in the fourth inning, a grand slam in the fifth inning, and added a two-run single in the ninth inning as PSU won the game, 18-11. He was also 2-for-3 with an RBI in the second game of the twinbill, a 14-4 setback, and was 4-for-5 with a triple, home run and three RBI in Thursday's 12-9 loss to Keene State.

Koban batted .714 in two games last week, going 5-for-7 with three walks, three runs scored and two RBI from the leadoff spot.  He reached base in all six plate appearances in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday against UMass Dartmouth with four singles and two walks, coming around to score three times and knocking in two.  He came back to go 1-for-3 with a walk in the nightcap, reaching base in 8-of-10 plate appearances on the day.

The Panthers, 5-13 overall and 1-4 in conference play, are scheduled to play non-conference games this Wednesday and Thursday at Middlebury College and Rivier College, respectively, and travel to Western Connecticut State University for an LEC twinbill on Saturday.
