WATERVILLE, Maine – Colby College’s Matt Moore (Winfield, Ill.) pitched a complete game in his final collegiate game with the Mules in a 9-3 win in the opener, but Plymouth State University got a solid pitching performance from sophomore Bobby Chatfield (Sharon, Conn.) in the nightcap in a 7-5 win at Coombs Field on Sunday.

The Mules end the season at 13-16 overall, while Plymouth State stands at 8-26.

Moore (4-1) finished with two strikeouts and no walks while allowing eight hits. He received run support when the Mules scored eight times in the first two innings. Richard Newton (Arlington, Mass.) had an RBI double and Mike Mastrocola (Southbury, Conn.) added an RBI groundout for two runs in the first inning. Colby sent 11 batters to the plate and scored six runs in the second inning. Kenneth Kaufman (Lexington, Mass.), Ryan Conlon (Ridgefield, Conn.), Mastrocola, and John LaMantia (Gates Mills, Ohio) all had RBI singles in the inning and Newton had a sacrifice fly.

PSU bounced back with its three runs in the third inning on a three-run homer by Mike Cappiello (Westfield, N.J.).

The Mules added their final run in the fifth inning when Nikolas Atsalis (West Hyannis Port, Mass.) reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on Kaufman’s RBI groundout.

Chatfield worked six innings in the second game and allowed just one earned run while striking out two. Freshman Rew Wilson (Niantic, Conn.) earned his second save for PSU.

Junior Bryant Lausberg (Somersworth, N.H.) had two hits, two RBI, and scored a run for the Panthers. Senior Steve Picco (Marshfield, Mass.) added two hits and two runs, while freshman David Tammaro (Cheshire, Conn.) had two hits and two RBI.

John Lerner (Canton, Mass.) smacked a two-run homer among his two hits and scored three runs for Colby. Mastrocola also had two hits and drove in two runs, while Taro Gold (Belmont, Mass.) had two hits.

Plymouth State will play a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday at New England College (2:30 p.m.), and will wrap up the season Saturday at Panther Park with a Little East Conference twinbill against Western Connecticut State University.
