Panthers take nightcap for first win of season

            NEW YORK, N.Y. – The Plymouth State University baseball team split a pair of non-conference games on Sunday afternoon, defeating the City College of New York 10-1 in the second game of a doubleheader after falling in the opener, 7-3.

            Senior John Andersch (Concord, N.H.) earned the win on the mound for PSU in the nightcap, working four hitless innings, walking five and striking out six.  Junior Luke Merrill (Pittsburg, N.H.) followed with two innings of effective relief and sophomore Rew Wilson (Niantic, Conn.) pitched a scoreless seventh.

            Merrill and junior Ryan McIntosh (Lincoln, N.H.) led the Panther hitters with three hits and three RBI apiece in the second game.  Seniors Bryant Lausberg (Somersworth, N.H.) and Grant Livingston (Niantic, Conn.) added two hits apiece in the win as the Panthers pounded out 10 hits.

            Plymouth State left 11 runners on base in the opener.  Wilson and freshman Jeff Runnals (Wolfeboro, N.H.) had two hits apiece and McIntosh drove in a pair to provide the highlights.

            The Panthers (1-3) will be back on the diamond next weekend, competing in the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.
