PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three standout student-athletes on the Plymouth State University baseball and women’s lacrosse teams were honored Monday with top weekly honors from the Little East Conference (LEC).

Sophomore Rew Wilson (Niantic, Conn./East Lyme) was named LEC Baseball Co-Player of the Week, while freshmen Lorin Field (Hollis, N.H./Hollis-Brookline) and Emily Buckle (Danbury, Conn.) were named LEC Women’s Lacrosse Goalie and Rookie of the Week, respectively.  They are the first Panther student-athletes to be recognized this spring by the LEC.

A sophomore third baseman, Wilson hit game-winning grand slams on consecutive days last week to lead to the Panthers to a pair of victories in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla.  He clouted a one-out grand slam in the top of the sixth with his team trailing 6-3 to pull out a 7-6 win over the University of Scranton, and he cracked a walk-off grand slam the next day against Colby for a 10-8 win after the Panther went into the bottom of the seventh down 8-5.  For the week, Wilson hit safely in 9-of-10 games, batting .294 (10-of-34) with a double, two home runs, nine RBI, six runs scored, and two stolen bases.

A freshman goaltender, Field helped lead PSU to a pair of wins on its season-opening trip to Oregon, posting a 2-0 record with a 6.97 goals against average and a .636 saves percentage. She made 10 saves in winning her collegiate debut, a 10-8 come-from-behind win over Pacific University, and she made 11 saves while allowing four goals in 43 minutes of work in a 14-8 triumph over Linfield University.

A freshman midfielder, Buckle led PSU on its season-opening trip to Oregon, scoring a team-high seven goals.  She tallied six goals in her collegiate debut, a 10-8 come-from-behind win over Pacific University, and she scored once in a 14-8 triumph over Linfield University. Buckle scored two of her six goals against Pacific in the final 10 minutes as PSU scored the final four goals of the game to pull out the 10-8 win.

Both Panther squads will be in action this week with non-conference road games.  The baseball team will face Rivier College Thursday in a game played at Franklin Pierce University, while the women’s lacrosse team travels to Fitchburg State on Tuesday and Springfield College on Thursday.  The LEC games begin this Saturday for both teams, with the baseball squad visiting Eastern Connecticut State University and the women’s lax team traveling to Rhode Island College.
