PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Freshman Jeff Runnals (Wolfeboro, N.H.) led off the 10th inning with a double to right center field and came home on an RBI single by sophomore Joe Perry (Sandwich, Mass.) Saturday afternoon to give Plymouth State University a 5-4 victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and a split of the Little East Conference baseball doubleheader at Panther Park.
Both games ended up as one-run affairs with the winning team pulling out the victory in its final at bat. The Corsairs took 3-1 lead through four innings of the opener. PSU battle back to tie it with solo runs in the fifth and seventh innings. Sophomore Steve Beard (Middleton, Mass.) tripled and scored on a sac fly in the fifth and junior Mike Cappiello (Westfield, N.J.) cracked a game-tying RBI triple to left center in the seventh. The Corsairs pulled the win out in the ninth on a pair of singles and DeMello's sacrifice fly.
