Junior outfielder/pitcher Jeff Runnals (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood) was named LEC Baseball Player of the Week. Runnals went 4-for-5 with five runs batted in to power Plymouth State to a sweep of Lasell College this past week.
Runnals, who plays right field when he's not pitching for the Panthers, recorded four extra-base hits in the twin bill – two doubles and two triples – to sport a 2.000 slugging percentage. He was 2-for-3 with three runs batted in in the first game to help the Panthers post an 8-4 win over the Lasers. Runnals reached base safely in each of his four plate appearances in the night cap with a double, triple and two walks as Plymouth State stretched its win streak to four games.
Runnals is off to a strong start at the plate for the Panthers, batting .538 through four games (7-for-13) with two doubles, two triples, and a team-high nine runs batted in. He is also 1-0 in two pitching appearances with a 3.38 earned run average and eight strikeouts in eight innings of work.
The Panthers, off to a 4-0 start, are in the middle of their Spring Break trip to Fort Myers, Fla.
