PSU Baseball player earns Little East Conference weekly honor

Larson recognized for Panthers after win against Eastern Conn.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A freshman relief pitcher on the Plymouth State University baseball team was recognized Monday with weekly recognition from the Little East Conference (LEC) for his performance in a big Panther win last weekend.

Freshman Alex Larson (Brunswick, Maine) was named LEC Baseball Rookie of the Week after his stint on Sunday as the Panthers upended conference power Eastern Connecticut State University, 16-7. The Warriors were ranked third in New England in last week's poll.

A 6'2 right-hander, Larson pitched the final three innings against Eastern and recorded his first career victory (1-0). He worked three innings and allowed just one run on three hits, a walk and a hit batter, striking out two. Larson retired three straight batters after giving up a run in the seventh, got a double-play ball after surrendering a walk in the eighth, and got the final out in the ninth on a strikeout after two batters reached base on a single and a hit by pitch.

The rookie righty has posted a 3.38 earned run average in four appearances this season, pitching eight innings and allowing six runs (three earned) on nine hits and three walks, striking out eight. He has helped PSU post a 3.68 team ERA, second best in the LEC.

PSU, 8-6 overall and 1-1 in the LEC, is scheduled to play Wednesday, Apr. 5, at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, Conn., in a non-conference doubleheader slated to begin at 3:30 p.m.
