Ruziak named All-LEC First Team for Panthers, Richard on Second Team

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two standouts on the Plymouth State University baseball team were recognized Tuesday as the Little East Conference All-Star Teams for the 2017 season were announced.

Junior catcher Cam Ruziak (Sterling, Mass./Wachusett Regional) was PSU's representative on the All-LEC First Team, while sophomore transfer Ryan Richard (Berlin, N.H.) was named to the Second Team as an outfielder. The All-LEC post-season honors are voted on by the league's eight head coaches.

A 5'8" catcher, Ruziak started 31 of PSU's 38 games this spring, batting .263 (30-for-114) with seven doubles, two triples, a home run, 18 RBI and 18 runs scored. He posted a .983 fielding percentage with just four errors in 239 attempts and four passed balls, and he threw out 40 percent of potential base-stealers (26-of-65). Ruziak was behind the plate in all 14 of PSU's Little East games, and had four RBI in a game against Eastern Connecticut.

A 5'4" outfielder, Richard led the Panthers this spring and ranked 11th in the LEC with a .374 batting average (49-for-131).  He collected six doubles, two triples, 21 walks, 17 RBI and 35 runs scored (tied for ninth in the LEC). Richard started the season with a 12-game hitting streak and hit safely in 30 of his 37 games, with a pair of four-hit outings and two other three-hit contests.

The Panthers finished the 2017 season with a 19-19 overall record and a 4-10 mark in the Little East.
