Metzdorf, Marique named Player, Pitcher of the Week

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The top hitter and pitcher from the Plymouth State University baseball team were both honored by the Little East Conference (LEC) when the league announced its weekly award winners on Monday.

Sophomore Drew Metzdorf (Burlington, Mass.) was named the LEC Player of the Week, while freshman Richie Marique (Derry, N.H.) took home Pitcher of the Week honors.

Metzdorf hit at a .348 clip over the week, recording at least one hit in six of the Panthers' seven games. He posted a .385 on base percentage and slugged .522 for the week while hitting four doubles and driving in nine runs as PSU went 3-4 to close out its annual appearance at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. He has been Plymouth State's top threat at the plate, posting a .425/.479/.600 slash line through the team's first 12 games and leads the team with 17 hits and 16 RBI.

Marique was dominating in his lone start of the week, going seven innings to pick up the win and improve to 2-0 on the season. He struck out ten batters and allowed just one run as the Panthers topped Lakeland College, 7-2, in game one of a doubleheader last Wednesday. Marique has averaged 14.25 strikeouts per nine innings through his two starts while pitching to a 0.75 ERA. His 19 strikeouts lead the Panthers' staff, while he has surrendered just one earned run over 12 innings of work.

Plymouth State wrapped up its spring break trip with a 7-4 record and sits at 7-5 overall.
