PSU Competitive Cheer places first at East Elite Inv.

Panthers perform with strong routine

MARLBORO, Mass. – The Plymouth State University competitive cheer team finished first in the All Girl Level 6 division Sunday at the 10th annual East Elite Invitational.

The Panther contingent registered a score a 279.1, 39 points ahead of second place finisher Curry College.  The Panthers also finished second in the overall collegiate divison (All Girl and Co-Ed teams) just 11 points behind Boston University.

The Panthers performance was their best to date, according to head coach Erin Boylan.  "I was pleased with our performance.  We had a stunt come down and some issues in the Pyramid, but overall I am very happy.  Last week we had a lot of timing issues and problems with stunts staying in the air.  But this past week at practice the team really stepped up and put in the work to improve."

Boylan noted that the Panthers had strong performances from sophomores Catrina Wade (Biddeford, Maine) and Sonya MacMillan (Nashua, N.H.) and freshman Dani Estes (South Berwick, Maine).

"I was very happy with the scores we received and the judges really seem to like the overall effect of the routine," Boylan said.  "We still have some elements to improve on but overall it was a great performance."

The Panthers will compete this Saturday, Mar. 23, at All That Cheer in Haverhill, Mass., and at the Bravo All-Stars event in Stoneham, Mass., on Saturday, Mar. 30.

Boylan and the team are looking forward to the next two weeks of competitions as they prepare to head to NCA Collegiate Nationals April 11-14 in Daytona Beach.
