PSC Football Receives More Weekly Honors
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Three Plymouth State College football standouts that were key players in the Panthers' 21-16 victory over SUNY-Brockport last Saturday in the home opener have been recognized for their strong individual performances.
Sophomore running back Jeff Parker (Norwich, NY) was selected as the Freedom Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week, and was placed on the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III New England Weekly Honor Roll. Junior safety Colt Meredith (Saugus, MA) and junior punt returner/wide receiver Brent Bardellini (Milford, MA) were both named to the FFC Weekly Honor Roll.
PSC, 2-0 overall, dropped to #2 behind Springfield in the ECAC Division III New England weekly poll, despite a 21-16 come-from-behind triumph over Brockport. The Panthers make their FFC debut this Saturday (Sept. 26) at Currier Field against Norwich University in the Homecoming contest (12:00 p.m., WMUR-TV).
After gaining only five yards in the first half Saturday, Parker came off the bench to rush for 118 second-half yards and a pair of touchdowns to key PSC's comeback. He scored from one yard out with 7:20 to play in the fourth quarter to give PSC its first lead at 14-10, then added what would become the game-winner from eight yards out with 4:43 remaining to put PSC ahead 21-10. Parker also caught two passes for 12 yards to compliment his first career 100-yard game.
Meredith spearheaded the Panther defensive effort Saturday, making nine tackles, including one sack and eight unassisted stops. He recovered a Brockport fumble and registered one pass break-up. Meredith leads the team in tackles on the season with 16.
Bardellini finished his afternoon with 210 all-purpose yards. He returned four punts for 32 yards and three kick-offs for 74 yards, rushed twice for 11 yards, including a first down on a fourth-down fake punt, and he caught three passes for 93 yards, including a 63-yarder that set up PSC's go-ahead touchdown.
This week's PSC honorees are all different from the three that were honored last week. The first group of PSC honorees included sophomore QB Zach Matthews (Sanford, ME), junior LB Eric Taylor (Saratoga Springs, NY) and redshirt freshman RB Russ Massahos (Windham, NH).
