Belmont Named to GTE Academic All-District Football Team
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The starting center on the Plymouth State College football team has been recognized for his accomplishments in the classroom.
Junior Chris Belmont (Campton, NH/Plymouth Reg. H.S.) was named to the 1998 GTE District I Academic All-America Football Team (College Division), as voted by the College Sports Information Directors of America. The members of the District I team, including Belmont, are now eligible for selection to the national football Academic All-America squad, which will be announced December 8th.
A physical education major, Belmont is maintaining a 3.57 grade point average at Plymouth State. He is a two-time selection to the Freedom Football Conference All-Academic Team.
Belmont has also been involved in several community service projects, such as "Safe Walk," a volunteer escort service that operates on and off campus on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. As President of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, he organized a blood donation day for members and non-members to become part of a national bone marrow donors file. He also organized a food and toiletries drive for the homeless which involved members of the fraternity collecting food and toiletries from students to donate to the local homeless shelter.
Now in his second year as starting center, Belmont has helped the Panthers to two straight 7-3 regular seasons and consecutive appearances in an ECAC play-off game. Earlier this week, Belmont was selected a Second Team Freedom Football Conference All-Star.
