PSC picked 3rd in FFC pre-season poll

NEW LONDON, Conn. - Plymouth State College was picked to finish third in the 2001 Freedom Football Conference race, as voted by the league's head coaches.

Defending champion Springfield College, which was a perfect 6-0 in league action last year, is favored to repeat as champion. The Pride, which went 11-2 and advanced to the NCAA Division III East Region Final in 2000, received four first-place votes and 45 points. Western Connecticut, which finished 10-1 last season and won the ECAC Northeast Championship, received the other three first-place votes and 44 points.

Plymouth State (34 points), which has tied for third in the FFC the past two years, was followed by Norwich (27), Kings Point (21), WPI (16) and Coast Guard (9).

Three FFC teams -- Norwich, WPI and Kings Point -- kick off the season on Sept. 1st, while the other four schools open on Sept. 8th. PSC, led by third-year head coach Chris Rorke, makes its 2001 debut at Currier Field against Rensselaer on Sept. 8th (12:00 p.m.)
