PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Three Plymouth State College football players received recognition from the Freedom Football Conference Monday for their performances in last Saturday's 34-20 non-conference victory over the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.
Senior running back Russ Massahos (Windham, N.H.) was named FFC Offensive Player of the Week, graduate student Mike Bardellini (Milford, Mass.) was picked FFC Special Teams Player of the Week, and senior Brian Chaplain (Hooksett, N.H.) was selected to the FFC Defensive Weekly Honor Roll.
A 5'11". 200-pound back, Massahos rushed 12 times for 90 yards (7.5 avg.) and a touchdown in PSC's victory. He also caught a pair of passes for 14 yards. Massahos improved his career rushing total to 2,534 yards, moving him into third place on PSC's career rushing list.
A 5'8", 208-pound receiver, Bardellini returned two punts, including one for a 61-yard touchdown early in the second quarter. He also caught three passes for 22 yards, including an eight-yarder for a TD with 26 seconds remaining in the second quarter.
A 5'11", 211-pound linebacker, Chaplain led PSC in tackles Saturday with 11 total, including nine unassisted stops. He registered three sacks on the afternoon, and four total tackles for negative yardage. Chaplain is the FFC leader in sacks this season with four.
PSC, 1-1 overall, begins conference play this Saturday (Sept. 22) with a 1:30 p.m. kick-off at Norwich University.
