PSC picked third in FFC pre-season poll

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Plymouth State College, which captured a share of the 2001 Freedom Football Conference Championship, was picked third in the annual FFC pre-season coaches' poll, which was released Monday.

Defending co-champion Western Connecticut, which shared the title with Plymouth State last fall before advancing to the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs, received four first-place votes (45 points) and earned the top nod in this year's poll. Springfield, the 2000 conference champion, had two first-place votes (38 points) and was picked second, while PSC received the remaining first-place vote (36 points) and finished third.

Kings Point (28 points) finished fourth in the poll, followed by WPI (22), Norwich (16) and Coast Guard (11).

PSC finished the 2001 campaign with a 7-2 overall record, 5-1 in conference play. The Panthers, led by fourth-year head coach Chris Rorke, open the 2002 season with non-conference encounters on Friday, Sept. 13, at UMass Dartmouth and Saturday, Sept. 21, at William Paterson (N.J.). The rest of the schedule includes all Saturday games: Sept. 28 vs. Norwich (home), Oct. 5 vs. Western Conn. (home), Oct. 12 at Kings Point, Oct. 19 at Springfield, Oct. 26 vs. Bentley (home), Nov. 2 at Coast Guard, Nov. 9 at Southern Connecticut, and Oct. 16 vs. WPI (home).
