PSU Football players Fallon and Zinis honored by FFC

PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two members of the Plymouth State University football team were honored Monday by the Freedom Football Conference for their efforts in the Panthers' loss to nationally-ranked Bentley College last Saturday.

Freshman Dan Fallon (Manchester, N.H./Central) was named the FFC Rookie of the Week, and senior Jay Zinis (Manchester, N.H./West) was named to the FFC Weekly Honor Roll. They have provided some of the highlights in what has been a disappointing season for the Panthers.

A 5'8", 166-pound safety, Fallon led the Panthers in tackles for the second straight week. He made 10 stops, including four solo tackles, and he also recovered a blocked punt. Fallon also had 10 tackles, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick to lead the team a week ago in a loss to Springfield. The freshman defensive back ranks sixth in the conference with 50 tackles (7.1 per game).

A 5'10", 182-pound wide receiver/kick returner, Zinis was a jack-of-all-trades for the Panthers against Bentley, playing offense, defense and special teams. He caught five passes for 61 yards, returned four kickoffs for 90 yards (long of 34), returned one punt for four yards, and made seven tackles, including five unassisted. A fifth-year senior, Zinis made his first career appearance in the Panther defensive backfield.

After a rugged schedule in October, which included four games against opponents with a combined record of 27-4, PSU returns home to host 1-5 Coast Guard this Saturday at Currier Field (12:00 pm.).
