GAME #8: Plymouth State University (2-5) at
Husson College (2-2)
Saturday, Oct. 22, 2005, 1:00 p.m., Winkin Complex, Bangor, Maine
PLYMOUTH, N.H. - The Plymouth State University football team travels to Bangor, Maine, this weekend, for a non-conference game against Husson College.
The Panthers and Eagles will kick off at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at the Winkin Complex. The game is a rematch from last year's contest in Plymouth, when the Panthers snapped their long losing streak with a 33-21 victory. Husson is now in its third year as a varsity program as a Division III independent.
Plymouth State is looking to rebound from a 33-13 loss to Springfield last Saturday at a rainy Currier Field. PSU is also seeking its third win of the season, having previously defeated UMass Dartmouth and Becker. The Panthers got a touchdown pass from senior Jimi Lampron (Rochester, N.H.) to sophomore John DeMarco (Milford, N.H.) for one score against Springfield, and junior DB Dan Fallon (Manchester, N.H./Central) returned a fumble 42 yards for another TD.
Fallon continued his All-Star season, leading the team with 12 tackles (11 unassisted) and recovering two fumbles, returning one 42 yards for a TD. For his efforts, he was named ECAC Northeast Defensive Player of the Week. Fallon has a team-high 59 tackles in seven games this season, including 46 unassisted stops, two interceptions, four pass break-ups, and two fumble recoveries. Junior DT Jeff Ethier (North Attleboro, Mass.) has 40 tackles, 13.5 for loss, four sacks, two pass break-ups, and three fumble recoveries. Linebackers Tim Butler (Concord, Mass.) and Jake Meserve (Dover, N.H.) have 39 tackles and one interception apiece.
Husson has won two and lost two games this season, and had one cancelled due to heavy rains (Oct. 8, at Southern Virginia). The Eagles clocked Mount Ida 62-14 earlier this month, and picked up a 40-0 victory over SUNY Maritime College last Saturday at home. Husson finished 0-6 in its first season in 2003, and concluded last year with a 2-7 record.
Plymouth State and Husson met for the first time in football last season, with the Panthers capturing the 33-21 triumph. Then-sophomore QB Tye Seastedt (Danville, N.H.) threw a pair of touchdown passes to then-freshman WR Brad Largy (Litchfield, N.H.) and ran for one himself to lead the Panthers. Fallon was the leader of the Panther defense, making a team-high nine tackles, blocking two kicks, recovering a fumble, and recording one pass break-up. Husson's Mike Prentiss rushed 39 times for 159 yards and three touchdowns, and Josh Nowlin led the Husson defense with 15 tackles, including 12 solo stops.
