PLYMOUTH, N.H. - Two members of the Plymouth State University football team were recognized Monday with selection to the New England Football Conference Weekly Honor Roll.
Senior tailback Jeff Mack (Milford, N.H./Milford) and sophomore defensive back Kevin Whalen (Wallingford, Conn./Sheehan) were PSU's representatives on this week's list. They were key players in the Panthers' 26-7 win last Saturday at Coast Guard. It is the second weekly honor in three weeks for Mack and the first of the season for Whalen.
A 5'11", 215-pound back, Mack (right) rushed 26 times for 124 yards and one touchdown, averaging 4.8 yards per carry. His touchdown gave PSU a 19-7 lead early in the fourth quarter. An All-New England performer in 2007, Mack is ranked fifth in the 16-team NEFC this season with 141 rushing yards per game and tied for sixth with four touchdowns.
A 5'9", 177-pound corner back, Whalen (left) finished with a team-high 10 tackles (all solo), along with two pass break-ups and one interception (30-yard return). His interception came with 4:49 left in the third quarter, with PSU leading 13-7 and CGA driving in Panther territory, and led to a PSU 12-play scoring drive to go up 19-7. Whalen was a Second Team All-NEFC selection a year ago.
The Panthers open NEFC Boyd Division play this Saturday, hosting UMass Dartmouth at Currier Field (1:00 p.m.) PSU has won eight straight home games, including one this season and all six last year.
