PLYMOUTH, N.H. - For the second straight week, the star running back on the Plymouth State University football team was recognized with one of the top weekly honors from the New England Football Conference.
Senior tailback Jeff Mack (Milford, N.H./Milford) was selected NEFC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, sharing this week's honor with Bridgewater State College running back Bruce Burley. Mack turned in another dominating performance last Saturday in a 36-14 victory over Endicott College with his third 200-yard rushing performance in six weeks this season. The PSU back was on the NEFC Weekly Honor Roll three times in the first four weeks of the campaign, and has won or shared the Offensive Player of the Week honor the past two weeks.
A 5'11", 215-pound back, Mack (right) rushed for a career-high 227 yards on 22 carries (10.3 avg.) with three touchdowns (4, 2 and 59 yards) against Endicott. His first two touchdowns came in the first quarter as PSU built a 20-0 lead, and he added his third score midway through the third quarter to make it 30-0. Mack went over the 1,000-yard mark for the season and now has 1,065 yards rushing.
An All-New England running back a year ago, Mack has taken over the rushing lead in the NEFC with an average of 177 yards per game. He is also fifth in the NEFC in scoring with 12 touchdowns. Mack continues to climb up PSU's all-time rushing list; he is now third with 3,230 yards on 572 carries (5.6 avg.) with 35 touchdowns. He is within striking distance of the second spot, currently held by Russ Massahos, who rushed for 3,276 yards and 36 TDs from 1998-01.
The Panthers, 5-1 overall and tied for first place in the NEFC Boyd Division (3-0), are on the road again this Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest against Nichols College.
