PSU Football players named to NEFC Weekly Honor Roll
Castellucci, Long recognized after Panther win over Castleton
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two standouts on the
Plymouth State University football team were honored by the New
England Football Conference Monday for their performances in last
Saturday's 16-14 victory at Castleton State College to open the
2010 season.
Senior linebacker Brian Castellucci (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) and sophomore running back Ty Long (Dover, N.H./Dover) were PSU’s representatives on the NEFC Weekly Honor Roll. Both got off to a strong start to the season after earning NEFC post-season honors last year.
A 5'10", 204-pound linebacker, Castellucci
(right) topped the Panther defense with 11 total
tackles, including three solo stops and two for minus
yardage. He also picked off a Castleton pass, his third
career interception. Castellucci was a First Team All-NEFC
linebacker last fall.
A 5'8", 178-pound tailback, Long (left) rushed 17 times
for 107 yards on Saturday, a 6.3 average. He had a key 34-yard run
on the first drive of the third quarter to set up a touchdown that
gave PSU a 13-7 lead, and he had a big 21-yard gain on PSU’s
game-winning drive late in the fourth quarter. It was
Long’s fourth career 100-yard rushing performance, the first
three coming last season when he was named NEFC Boyd Division
Rookie of the Year.
The Panthers are back at home this week for the home opener at Currier Field, a 1:00 p.m. non-conference encounter against Mount Ida College.
