PSU Football player earns regional academic honor
Duford named to Capital One Academic All-District Team
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the seniors on the Plymouth State University football team has been honored for his successful accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the gridiron.
Senior Josh Duford (Claremont, N.H./Stevens) has been named to the Capital One Academic All-District First Team, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Duford was voted to the Academic All-District Team for Division III at wide receiver and will be on the ballot for the Capital One Academic All-America Team.
A three-year veteran for the Panthers, Duford led the team in all of the receiving categories this season – 13 receptions, 267 yards, 20.5 yards per catch, and two touchdowns. He was also counted on for his blocking skills as PSU ran the ball on 468 of 582 plays from scrimmage.
In the classroom, Duford is a Childhood Studies major who has made the President's List every semester he has been at PSU. He received the PSU Presidential Scholarship for academics, and is a three-time selection to the New England Football Conference All-Academic Team. Duford completed his practicum fieldwork at Plymouth Elementary School in 2010-11 and Campton Elementary School this year.
To be eligible for the Capital One Academic All-America program, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution. Academic All-District First Team selections advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
