Fiore, Foglia represent Panthers after loss to Mount Ida
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two seniors on the Plymouth State University football team were honored by the New England Football Conference Monday for their performances in last Saturday's 22-12 loss to Mount Ida College.
Senior defensive end Matt Fiore (Merrimac, Mass./Pentucket) and senior running back Andrew Foglia (Montauk, N.Y./East Hampton) represented Plymouth State on this week's NEFC Weekly Honor Roll. Both are first-time honorees this season; Foglia was recognized five times in 2011.
A 6'0", 234-pound defensive end, Fiore finished with 13 tackles in the setback to Mount Ida, including seven unassisted tackles and two sacks. He leads the 16-team NEFC with 3.5 sacks through the first two weeks. Fiore was a Second Team All-NEFC Boyd Division last year after he made 27 tackles in eight games, including nine tackles for lost yardage.
A 6'1", 215-pound tail back, Foglia rushed for 118 yards on 16 carries for a 7.4 average against the Mustangs. It was the sixth 100-yard rushing game of Foglia's career. The Panther back ranks fifth in the NEFC with 107 rushing yards per game.
The Panthers, 0-2, look to get on the winning track this Saturday with an NEFC crossover game at Maine Maritime Academy (12 noon).
