Fiore, Boulay, Morgan represent Panthers as Boyd Div. All-Stars
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Three members of the Plymouth State University football team were honored by the New England Football Conference Monday when the All-Conference teams were announced for the 2012 season.
Senior Matt Fiore (Merrimac, Mass./Pentucket) led the way for PSU, earning Boyd Division First Team honors at defensive line, while senior defensive back Ray Boulay (Keene, N.H./Keene) and junior linebacker Josh Morgan (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) were Boyd Division Second Team selections. Fiore is a repeat selection as he was a Second Team All-Star last year while the other two are first-time honorees. The NEFC All-Star teams are voted on by the league's head coaches.
All three of the Panthers honorees received weekly recognition from the NEFC during the regular season. Fiore and Boulay were on the NEFC Weekly Honor Roll on consecutive weeks in September, and Morgan was the NEFC and ECAC Northeast Defensive Player of the Week in October.
A 6'0", 234-pound defensive end, Fiore finished with 46 tackles in nine games for the Panthers, including 31 solo stops. He tied for third among players on all 16 teams in the NEFC with 6.5 sacks. A four-year veteran and three-year starter, Fiore finished his career with 105 tackles and 9.5 sacks.
A 5'7", 164-pound cornerback, Boulay was PSU's top player in the defensive backfield. He finished third on the team with 56 tackles, and collected one interception and eight pass breakups. Boulay was also PSU's top kick returner, averaging 21.3 yards per return.
A 6'1", 218-pound linebacker, Morgan led the team with 73 tackles, including one sack and a team-high 11 stops for lost yardage. He also picked off a pass and recovered a fumble during his first season on defense and playing quarterback his first two years in a Panther uniform.
The Panthers finished 2-8 overall this fall, and 1-6 in conference play. PSU completed play in the New England Football Conference in 2012, and will play in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) in 2013.
