Foglia named Player of the Week; Giles repeats on Honor Roll
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Two members of the Plymouth State University football team have been honored by the Massachusetts State Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) for their performances in last Saturday's 37-26 non-conference victory over Mount Ida College.
Senior running back Andrew Foglia (Montauk, N.Y.) was named MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week, and junior kicker Rob Giles (Derry, N.H./Pinkerton Academy) earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll. Both players were honored by the conference for the second week in a row, as Foglia was an Honor Roll selection last week and Giles was Special Teams Player of the Week.
A 6-1, 212-pound halfback, Foglia (#32) totaled 220 yards of offense and four touchdowns Saturday to lead PSU over Mount Ida. He rushed for 199 yards on 26 carries (7.7 avg.) and TD runs of 34, 6 and 15 yards, and he added a 21-yard TD reception. Foglia scored PSU's first three touchdowns, staking PSU to a 20-7 lead, and his fourth TD came in the fourth quarter when the Panthers were up by just four points, solidifying the win.
A 5-10, 163-pound transfer, Giles (#93) was 4-for-5 on extra point kicks, and he booted a 42-yard field goal with 6:53 left in the fourth quarter that turned a 27-26 PSU lead into a 30-26 margin.
The Panthers, 1-1, play their inaugural MASCAC game this Saturday when they host Western Connecticut State University at 1:00 p.m. at Currier Field.
