Esposito fills up stat sheet for Panthers in OT loss at Bridgewater State
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A starting defensive lineman on the Plymouth State University football team was recognized Monday with a weekly conference honor after the Panthers dropped their second straight overtime affair.
Junior defensive tackle Joe Esposito (Hackettstown, N.J./Hanover Park) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Defensive Player of the Week. Esposito filled up the stat sheet in PSU's 29-23 double-overtime setback last Saturday at league-leading Bridgewater State University.
A 6-2, 253-pound tackles, Esposito collected six tackles (five solo), one sack (-6 yards), two tackles for loss (-8 yards), one interception (12-yard return to set up a touchdown), a forced fumble and a blocked kick. He forced a fumble with 1:31 to play in the fourth quarter with the score tied and BSU threatening at the PSU 22-yard line. His interception came in the first four minutes of the game and set up PSU's first touchdown, and he blocked an extra point when BSU pulled to within 14-13 in the third quarter.
PSU, 4-2 overall and 2-2 in the MASCAC, is in the Also Receiving Votes category in this week's New England Division III poll. The Panthers will host defending champion Framingham State University this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Currier Field.
