Mahoney achieves success in classroom and on field
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – A senior co-captain on the Plymouth State University football team has been honored for his successful accomplishments in the classroom as well as on the field.
Senior Tyler Mahoney (Dracut, Mass./Greater Lowell Tech) has been voted to the Academic All-District Team, as selected by CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America). Mahoney was named to the Academic All-District Team for District I in NCAA Division III Football, and is now eligible for selection to the Academic All-America team, which will be announced later this month.
A co-captain and four-year veteran for the Panthers, Mahoney is a two-year starter at fullback, serving primarily as a blocking back. He has carried the ball 14 times this season for 113 yards and one touchdown, averaging 14.1 yards per carry. Mahoney has PSU's longest run from scrimmage this season with a 55-yard scamper. He has helped the team to a 4-4 record, doubling last year's win total.
A Physical Education major, Mahoney has been named to the President's List in five of his semesters at PSU and once to the Dean's List. He received Plymouth State Football's Academic Achievement Award, and is a three-time selection to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Academic Team.
To be eligible for the Academic All-America program, student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with legitimate athletic credentials and maintain at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). He/she must have reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and must have completed at least one full academic year at that institution. Academic All-District First Team selections advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America honors.
