PSU Football player named All-New England for Division II/III

Ziemba represents Panthers as N.E. Football Writers All-Star

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – One of the top players on the Plymouth State University football team was honored recently by the New England Football Writers for his outstanding season in 2016.

Senior defensive back Zach Ziemba (Manchester, N.H./West) was selected to the 2016 New England Football Writers Division II/III All‐New England Team. Ziemba is just one of four defensive backs to be selected, with the other three coming from Assumption College, American International College and Western New England University.

Ziemba was previously honored as a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) First Team All-Star. He was one of five MASCAC standouts named to the All-New England Team by the college football writers.

A 5-11, 187-pound safety, Ziemba ranked tied for third in the MASCAC with five interceptions as PSU had three of the top four MASCAC leaders in interceptions this season. Ziemba also led the team with 71 tackles, including 62 solo stops. He collected four tackles for minus yardage, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery, five INT and four pass break-ups. Ziemba also made an impact on special teams, blocking two kicks and nearly blocking several others.

Ziemba helped the team to a 6-4 overall record in 2016, the Panthers' best record since 2010. Two of PSU's four losses came in overtime, and another was a three-point decision where the Panthers had a chance to tie the game in the closing seconds.
