PSU Football receives votes in first New England D-III Football Poll

Panthers one of four MASCAC teams to receive votes 

            PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The inaugural Grinold Chapter New England Division III football weekly rankings of the 2017 season have been released, and the Plymouth State University football team is one of 15 schools who received votes.

            The Panthers earned 17 points, finishing 11 points shy of breaking the top-10. Springfield College claims the top spot with nine first place votes (144 points) to top second place Framingham State University, which received five first place votes (134 points). Trinity College, Western Connecticut State and Salve Regina round out the top five. Amherst College, which received the final first place vote this week, checks in at the sixth spot in the poll, while Middlebury College, Curry College, Coast Guard Academy and Williams College round out the inaugural top-ten for the 2017 campaign.

            Husson College (24 points), WPI (22 points), MIT (16 points) and Worcester State (15 points) were the other teams receiving votes in the initial poll.

            Through four games the Panthers own a 3-1 mark and have outscored their opponents by a 124-51 margin. Plymouth State will travel to Worcester State for another MASCAC contest on Saturday (Sept. 30), with kickoff set for 1:00 p.m.

            The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.
