Panthers hold ninth spot after win over Worcester State
PLYMOUTH, N.H. – The second Grinold Chapter New England Division III football weekly rankings of the 2017 season have been released, and the Plymouth State University football team has moved up to ninth place.
The Panthers earned 34 points, and are just two points behind MIT for the eighth place spot. Springfield College remains in the top spot with ten first place votes (145 points) to top second place Framingham State University, which received five first place votes (136 points). Trinity College, Amherst College, who took the final first place vote, and Middlebury College round out the top five. Salve Regina dropped to sixth, with Curry and MIT occupying the seventh and eighth place spots. Husson rounds out the top then.
PSU improved to 4-1 on the year and 2-1 in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) after Saturday's 16-6 win at Worcester State. Plymouth State is currently in a four-way tie for second place in the league, a half-game behind Framingham State (4-0, 2-0 MASCAC). The Panthers are back home at Currier Field on Saturday when they host Bridgewater State in a MASCAC contest on Scouts Day. Local Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts will be admitted to the game free of charge and are invited to participate in numerous pre-and postgame activities.
The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.
